All About Water Bowls: Installation And Maintenance

The Installation

1. First, remove the nut using a reverse thread to install the smooth flow water fitting onto the bowl. Then, apply silicone to the interior of the water fitting to prevent any water leakage. After that, tighten the fitting while remembering that the nut is a reverse thread. Allowing enough curing time for the silicone is important to prevent any water leaks.
2. Perform a leak test by adding small quantities of water inside the bowl. If a leak is identified, use additional silicone to patch it. Once no leaks are detected, proceed to install the water supply line.
3. Attach your water supply line to the 1 ½” female inlet of the water fitting to install the water bowl and achieve optimal water flow. You can use reducers or bushings to adjust the fitting to match the size of your water supply line. This fitting is specifically designed for water bowl installation purposes.
4. To ensure the bowl is properly installed, fasten it securely to the column using bonding agents like thin-set, mortar, cement, or anchors. However, if you opt for anchors, pre-drill the bowl to prevent damage. Additionally, check that the bowl is water-tight before securing it. To maintain a consistent water flow, level the bowl during installation to allow even water discharge from the scupper. Failure to level the bowl may cause irregular water flow.
5. Attach the scupper to the bowl by using an epoxy adhesive, silicone, or any other bonding agent of your choice. Ensure that the scupper is leveled to optimize water flow output. The scupper should be permanently fixed to the lip of the bowl.
6. Once prepared, you can activate your water bowl and place decorative stones inside the bowl for added aesthetics.

Maintenance

NOTE: It's important towinterize your water bowls in regions where temperatures drop below freezing. To do this, drain the bowls before temperatures reach freezing. Water remaining in the water line can expand and rupture the line when frozen.

Before using the water bowl: 

1. Before use, check the water feature for debris and remove any present.
2. To ensure proper water flow, make sure that the water fitting is clear of debris.

Maintenance: 2x a year, it is recommended to perform the following maintenance tasks on your water feature:

1. Conduct a leak test by inspecting all connections using silicone or epoxy adhesives. Exposure to water chemicals and UV light can wear down these seals, and you may need to reapply the sealant.
2. Gently tug on the copper spillway to check its tightness. If too loose, the water flow can dislodge the spillway, leaving an unsightly concrete surface and disrupting the water flow.

Annually: Once a year, turning on the water feature is recommended to ensure it's functioning correctly.
